Why are eyewitness misidentifications the leading cause of erroneous convictions in the courts?
What factors contribute to the high rate of misidentification? How can we reduce the rate of misidentifications? Is the US working to fix this?
Kathy Pezdek is a professor at Claremont Graduate University, where she chairs the Cognitive Science Program. Her extensive record of published research has explored many topics related to law and psychology, including eyewitness memory by police officers and civilians. Dr. Pezdek regularly testifies in this capacity in federal and state court cases.
