In this year of coronavirus, choral organizations all over the world were forced either to give up or to leap full speed into untried technologies. At College of Marin, we have followed several different paths with our different choirs, and we want to share our efforts with you in this ground-breaking concert. With our Chamber Singers group, we invested in Jack Trip, a cutting-edge technology that allows a group of people to hear each other simultaneously in real time. Our singers will be performing from twelve different zip codes at the same time!
The concert opens with a lovely Mozart – Ave Verum Corpus where fifty-six singers from Marin Oratorio each recorded their individual voices at home, then submitted it to be edited into a virtual choir that exists only in this fleeting moment of beauty. Then the Chamber Singers Jack trip magic begins. We begin simply with a single voice ancient chant to the Virgin Mary. Then a two-voice medieval Alleluia. We layer on the complexity of later styles with Renaissance polyphony, romantic madrigals, some grand sacred anthems, and finish with a dose of Pop.
